Successful business owners all have good habits which drive their success.
Overnight success only happens after habits are formed and effort is put into building a foundation for it!
As marketers, we have to structure our days to make sure that we are offering the best service and are getting everything done. Our process is the same each and every day.
It is really easy to start the day off and then get caught up with one thing and another. Before you know it, the day has gone and you don’t have anything to show for it.
This list of 10 things that successful business owners do every day will help you to structure your work whilst making sure that you’re getting everything done.
1. Successful Business Owners Plan
Just like other business owners, you’ll be juggling work and tasks all day, every day. How do you know what needs to be done in all of this chaos?
Make a plan – Daily!
Before you start work, or even at the end of the previous day is the best time to do this.
Write down everything that you need to get done. Highlight the most important ones and make sure that they are completed first. After that, you just need to tick your jobs off as you complete them.
If you haven’t completed the tasks on your list by the end of that day, move them onto tomorrows!!
2. Check Out Your Competition
With the hustle and bustle of your daily work, you can easily forget that you still have competition out there.
They won’t tell you when they change their strategies, products or services. It’s up to you to make sure that you are up to date with what they are doing and whether it is a threat to your business.
You can use tools like BuzzSumo, Google Alerts, Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, or SocialMention to keep an eye on what your competition are up to.
Ask us for more information on how to use these if you’re not sure.
3. Catch Up With The News
This should be a “no-brainer”! You have to keep up to date on what is happening in your local area, your industry and any other news that might affect what you are doing. Doing this daily makes sure that you don’t miss anything. It also means that you can incorporate anything important into your business straight away.
4. Analyse Your Numbers
The numbers that you focus on are unique to your business, but you know which ones I mean! Sales, profit, customer flow etc.
Check these daily so that you know exactly where you are up to against your plan. Don’t get too caught up with your stats if you are working to a long-term campaign, but it doesn’t harm to keep an eye on your progress.
5. Gather Your Team
Communication is vital to success. Even if you work alone, you probably have relationships with other people for work purposes. Make time to contact them – give them an update or ask for advice or support if you need it.
You could also agree with another business owner to “buddy” each other. You’re much more likely to be a success if you share your experiences and feel accountable to someone other than yourself for getting work done.
You never know what you’re missing if you don’t listen. Listen to your customers, your suppliers, your staff. Everyone! New ideas may come to you; new sales opportunities; new contacts. The list of potential is unlimited.
You can also listen to your audience on social media. Looking for trends and common pain points might give you new directions to move into.
7. Create New Content
Content marketing is something that every business should be using. Customers don’t just want to see your product list now. They want to know everything about you, your business, your values and your products. Content marketing gives you this opportunity.
Look at creating blog posts or taking photos of your products/services in action. Give customers something more than just a product description. Make them want and need it!
The more that you do this, the better you will become and the more customers and sales you will see as a result!
Don’t just be happy with what you’ve got now. Brainstorm new ideas for improvements to your work. It might mean new products or services, it might be new types of advertising. There is always something that can be improved, so think about how you might do that.
Make a note of anything, even if it seems stupid at the time. You just never know when a great idea might come to you.
Your brainstorming will give you a list of some crazy ideas, as well as some absolutely brilliant ones. Make it a point to try something new every day. It might be physically moving something, or it might be trying to offer your customers something extra.
There is no harm in experimenting to see where you can improve. Be brave! Even if it doesn’t work, you don’t have to do it again tomorrow…
At the end of each day evaluate how you’ve done. Did you finish all of the tasks on your plan? Did you reach your sales target for the day?
By keeping a daily track of how you’ve done, you make sure that you focus on improving.
It’s not vital for every successful business owner to follow every single one of these 10 points, but the more that you try, the better the chances of success.
Knowing your goals, researching new approaches, experimenting with them and then measuring them is a fantastic way to really dig deep into your business.
